data from 2017 parent survey
Not only will Capitol Debate students learn new skills through our programs; they will feel an increase in self-worth, learn critical thinking skills and improve public speaking and communication skills with their peers. Two weeks at camp will result in lifelong friendships and memories that will resonate with our students throughout their academic, personal and professional careers. Campers return to our program year after year because of how life-changing our Summer Debate Camps prove to be. Our parents will tell you themselves that they proudly stand by their investment in Capitol Debate because of the impact it has had on their families.
Capitol Debate was an amazing thing for me to experience. In only two weeks, I learned and improved so much and found a new family. The practice debates were intense and the feeling of passion I felt when debating is something that I want to remember forever. I'll never forget the time I spent with everyone and I look forward to my new-found interest!
I love Capitol debate. It is such a great opportunity to learn more and meet new people.
Great program that teaches kids to present their thoughts in a convincing and respectful manner. Good program to build self confidence and develop friendship.
Truly amazing experience, best camp you will ever go to!!!
I think Capitol Debate has helped me gain the skills and experience that I need to be a successful teacher in the future. It has allowed me to teach children something I am passionate about and see that passion passed on to the next generation.
The students that are adamant in coming, will find themselves empowered when they learn what they can do with their voice.
I don't think about people judging me anymore, I feel like I've become more open. For example I don't mind going up and signing horribly for a crowd anymore. Who cares what they think as long as I'm having fun. I understand that now.
More than any other camp I have been at, the bonds that were made at UNC Chapel Hill this year were the most obvious. It was impossible for me not to cry at the closing ceremony because of how close we had all become.
I have improved so much from the beginning of this camp to the end of this camp. As I was talking to my parents on the phone, they too noticed a massive difference. In one of our conversations they asked, "who are you? Its like you're a new person!" This was because after this camp, I was eager to research and learn about many topics.
It will improve child's self-confidence, speaking English (for foreigners), communication skills, make friends, etc. My son learned a lot about debate, and made several good friends, he became more confident to speak English as he is from China. We'd like to improve more next year.
