Teaching public speaking, persuasion, presentation skills and confidence through the art of debate
La Roche is a Catholic institution of higher learning founded in 1963 and sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence. The College is named for Marie de la Roche, a French woman of noble birth who became the first superior of the Congregation. The La Roche logo, the fleur-de-lis, is part of her family's coat of arms. The mission of the College is reinforced by our tagline, "Engaging Minds. Embracing the World," which describes the unique experience students find on the campus because of a commitment to quality education, deep faith heritage, and a social justice mission.

Here's what they said about Capitol Debate's Summer Camps.

Not only will Capitol Debate students learn new skills through our programs; they will feel an increase in self-worth, learn critical thinking skills and improve public speaking and communication skills with their peers. Two weeks at camp will result in lifelong friendships and memories that will resonate with our students throughout their academic, personal and professional careers. Campers return to our program year after year because of how life-changing our Summer Debate Camps prove to be. Our parents will tell you themselves that they proudly stand by their investment in Capitol Debate because of the impact it has had on their families.
At Capitol Debate Seton Hall, I was included and I wasn't left out. So many people there were kind and they took chances on strangers. It taught me to take a chance on strangers, to befriend as many people as I can, even if I'm in a competitive environment. It taught me to never let my negative judgements decide who I should befriend and who I should ignore.
Teenagers are naturally looking for opportunities to be heard. Give them the skills to think critically and debate coherently, so they can learn to think for themselves and argue for their own rights. Since we are not involved in any debate club or team during the school year, doing a camp like this is desirable.
Capitol debate builds the whole child : independent living, social skills development and academic strengthening
CD is an amazing international learning experience.
This camp teaches our kids the valuable skills of debate fostering critical thinking and self-confidence and within a supportive and fun group of peers.
I feel so lucky that we discovered Capitol Debate camp! Max loves debate and although he did not have a lot of experience he quickly got up to speed at debate camp thanks to the patient and amazing debate coaches. Max learned a lot about debate, got a lot of practice in a safe and supportive environment, and made a lot of friends--who were smart, nice, and just as interested in debate! He had an incredible experience and can't wait to go back next summer!
I have enjoyed working with Capitol debate and helping students, learn and grow to find their voice, or simply gaining a love for debate.
Going to this camp changed me from being shy and scared of public speaking to having better social skills and being fine speaking publicly. I would definitely recommend this camp as a life changing experience.
I'm also thankful for all the staff's efforts and caring. We talked with our son every day and could see he was adjusting to the dorm life well with the caring RAs. Whenever I emailed Rachel, she replied to me right away with detailed information that I exactly needed. I also appreciate the nurse for taking care of our son when he had a nose bleeding (due to seasonal allergy) several times during the first few days of the camp. Certainly Capitol Debate camp provides experience and education that students cannot have from their school.
Camp has provided me with a basic debate foundation to build off of in my potential later debate experiences. Not only were the games and activities enjoyable, but the classes and lectures were as well. I have had an incredible camp experience and am so grateful for the opportunity to attend.
