Teaching public speaking, persuasion, presentation skills and confidence through the art of debate
La Roche is a Catholic institution of higher learning founded in 1963 and sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence. The College is named for Marie de la Roche, a French woman of noble birth who became the first superior of the Congregation. The La Roche logo, the fleur-de-lis, is part of her family's coat of arms. The mission of the College is reinforced by our tagline, "Engaging Minds. Embracing the World," which describes the unique experience students find on the campus because of a commitment to quality education, deep faith heritage, and a social justice mission.
At our Public Speaking and Debate Camp level, middle school and high school students will learn the fundamentals of public speaking and argumentation, enabling them to develop core presentation and debating skills that boost confidence and self-esteem. Going to this camp changed me from being shy and scared of public speaking to having better social skills and being fine speaking publicly. I would definitely recommend this camp as a life changing experience.
I had a great time at Capitol debate! At first I was hesitant to go because I thought it would be all debate. However, even though there were hard times, at the end I found myself quietly crying because I had to leave.
Capitol Debate was an exciting learning experience. Over my two week stay in Baltimore, I made amazing new friends and gathered memories to last a lifetime; all while honing my skills as a debater and establishing a new knowledge of a variety of topics. Capitol Debate taught me new ways to exchange ideas and change my perspective of the world.
Allowing your child to attend this camp is life changing in a very good way!
This training builds useful verbal communication skills and instills confidence to try different verbal styles that most kids should have.
It has given me new insights into debating and has set a base for my debating career.
Thank you for making this such a great experience. I was nervous at first but I knew I made the right decision to come here. Everyone made it so special.
It was a great experience for me. I got to learn countless things while also having fun. My instructor was one of the best teachers I've ever had, and I learned a lot from him. I felt really close to my labmates and all of them were really happy for me when I won. I honestly loved this camp, and will 100% come back next year.
Capitol Debate has taught me how to strengthen my arguments in essays and persuasive papers. They also helped me learn to have a stronger voice in the community. Great camp
Best place for beginners and experienced debaters alike. They motivate the students to come out of their shell. Students learn to do research, coherently write their arguments, and present effectively within 2 weeks. This is a great achievement particularly for a beginner.
