I've improved on being a better debater, and being more patient with peers. This is a camp that would be recommended to anyone, because it fits all levels of debate!
Capitol Debate has taught me how to strengthen my arguments in essays and persuasive papers. They also helped me learn to have a stronger voice in the community. Great camp
I have enjoyed working with Capitol debate and helping students, learn and grow to find their voice, or simply gaining a love for debate.
Capitol Debate gave me the opportunity to utilize my skills and embrace my passion. I want to spread the beauty that debate has to as many individuals as possible and Capitol Debate is a great environment for that.
I met a lot of really cool people, made friends, and had a lot of fun. I definitely grew not only as a debater but also as a person in this camp.
This camp teaches our kids the valuable skills of debate fostering critical thinking and self-confidence and within a supportive and fun group of peers.
Capitol Debate is a wonderful place to learn about debate and make new friends. The staff is wonderful and helpful. This place has really made me smile. I met people from all over the state and some from neighboring states. I was happy to be here with both old friends and new friends.
Capitol Debate was an exciting learning experience. Over my two week stay in Baltimore, I made amazing new friends and gathered memories to last a lifetime; all while honing my skills as a debater and establishing a new knowledge of a variety of topics. Capitol Debate taught me new ways to exchange ideas and change my perspective of the world.
I was a beginner debater. I knew a bit, but not a lot. This camp is very engaging, as well as very interesting. The lectures were informative, and the practice was helpful, too. It requires time and effort, as debate does, but there is enough time for fun. Dinner was enough time to sociailize. I recommend being a resident, as you can make friends with your dormmates, I certainly did. And after 8, it can be the most fun parts of camp. But you need to work hard, so you have to be willing to put in the effort and try hard. The most successful students here were the ones that worked hard, and the ones that practiced and took the time to ask questions. You must also take suggestions, and listen to your peers. At the end of the day, you want to win the tournament, you want to debate like no tomorrow, but for a beginner, and for me, the main goal was to prove to myself that I could be a good debater and speaker, and that regardless of wins or losses, I would learn and take suggestions, improve on myself, and take losses. I wanted to debate, and Capitol Debate gave that to me in twelve days i won't forget.
The middle school camp was an excellent introduction to debate. The staff, programming, and college campus facilities were top notch. As a parent, I also appreciated the great ethnic and geographic diversity of the students.
