Parliamentary Debate

Parliamentary debate differs from American Debate. Parliamentary debates are more oratorical, witty, and more audience centric. Heckling as opposed to cross examination is the norm. In competitive parliamentary debating, each round of debate has a different topic announced just before the debate begins. Students have a short period of time to prepare. During preparation time, the participants analyze the proposition and outline their major arguments. One side will represent the government and the other will represent the opposition. The class will focus on teaching students the skills necessary to participate in Parliamentary Debate.
