Model United Nations, also known as Model UN, is an activity in which students roleplay delegates to the United Nations. Students simulate UN committees and agencies, such as the Security Council or Human Rights Council, and debate current, relevant international topics. The sessions are collaborative, with the ultimate goal of developing a proposal that a majority of the countries can agree upon. Through this process, students gain a greater understanding of issues the world is facing and learn more about the countries represented. Students gain skills such as diplomacy, public speaking, negotiation, collaboration, debate, and critical thinking skills.
